Habitat for Humanity

The Starke/Pulaski Habitat for Humanity organization held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house in February 2002 for its first project house in Ripley. A legion of volunteers from the two counties began construction on the five-bedroom, 1,400-square-foot home in May 2001. Daniel and Deb Fitz (shown with Habitat president Steve Morrison, bottom photo) and their six children will own the home; they also contributed many volunteer hours to the project.
Over 60 volunteers helped with the home construction. Twenty-four churches, clubs and individuals provided lunches for the workers on their Saturday workdays. Over 125 businesses, organizations and individuals donated materials and cash to the project.
