19th Annual
Medaryville Potato Fest
August 16-17, 2008

Every August Medaryville celebrates its heritage and rural charm with its own street fair - the Potato Fest which pays tribute to the days when the town was a center for vegetable truck farms, particularly potatoes.

The parade grand marshals were Kenton Eberhart and Ralph Risner.
The two-day festival included some pleasing treasures to be found in even this tiniest of small-town fairs - such as homemade chicken-and-noodle soup (the yummy noodles were made with potato flour!). Or a display of more than a dozen cookbooks featuring potato recipes. Or an exhibit of old Cadillac ambulances.

In some of the featured events Arin Tarr and Kaleb Hines were crowned Little Miss Spud and Little Master Spud. First runners-up were Lilly Adam and Nathan Tarr, while second runners-up were Kameron Whitrock and Zane Croft.

Humble Spuds were Ronnie and Susie Schultz, Larry and Mary Johnson, and Kareen Nielsen.

Parade winners were Medaryville American Legion (best theme), West Side Council of Aging (best float), West Central Cheerleaders (best marching unit) and West Central Band (best musical marching unit).

The Medaryville library got into the spirit of the festival
with an impressive display of potato cookbooks.

This 1973 Cadillac S&S ambulance was among several vintage ambulances
and hearses on display at the festival.

Stephanie Risner Harper and Sabrina Risner put together
this tandem bicycle and rode it in the parade.
