2005
Medaryville
Potato Fest

One
of the featured highlights of this years event
was the Heirloom Potato project which
involved the ordering, planting, caring for and
harvesting of 16 varieties of potatoes. Many individuals
worked on the project, and the Gingham Pals Extension
Homemakers used the potatoes to prepare an extraordinary
number of savory dishes which were served at a Taste
of Tater Town exhibit. The seed for these
potatoes was purchased through the Seed Savers Organization.
The whole project won enthusiastic praise from Potato
Fest visitors.

A highlight
of the fest was the 100th anniversary celebration
of the Old Medaryville Calaboose. Built in 1905 as
a jail building for $757, the structure has since
served as a town hall and fire house. The historic
structure is listed on the National Register. |
