Agri-Tourism
in Pulaski County

Autumn 2005

Colorful pumpkins, gourds, mums and other autumn harvest treats on display at Bonnie's Punkins, north of Winamac.

Agri-Tourism ... Fun on the Farm!
Sometime back, the Pulaski County Extension Office and cooperating agencies sponsored a seminar on the possibilities of “agri-tourism” development in the county. Several local enterprises sponsor agriculture-related events - some new, others long-standing - that fall under the agri-tourism umbrella. Two businesses held events this month on an autumn theme.
Prairie Moon Orchard & Market, located on U.S. 421 south of Francesville, held a Saturday “round-up” Oct. 1, featuring pony rides, hayrides, a pumpkin patch, chuck wagon, chili buffalo burgers, music around a campfire, horseshoes and other games.
Bonnie’s Punkins, located on U.S. 35 north of Winamac, held its annual fall craft show Oct. 8-9, featuring homemade crafts by local artisans, ham-and-bean dinners, an ice cream social, and bluegrass music, plus a variety of pumpkins, Indian corn, dried flowers, mums, gourds, squash and more for sale.

Don Swartzell of Winamac hitched his well-known team of workhorses to a covered wagon to give rides at Prairie Moon.
