Peeking from behind light poles or sitting satisfied on bales of straw - the scarecrows in the second annual Adventures in Scarecrows contest, sponsored by the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce, delighted residents and visitors in the county during the first two weeks of October.
In its initial season last year, the scarecrow contest brought much positive attention to the downtown areas and all of Pulaski County. The contest has brought passers-by from several surrounding counties and beyond, all wanting to catch a glimpse of the fall flavor and fun, says retail chairperson Rene Burton, who spearheaded the event. As the contest continues to grow with more entries and more interest, the Chamber hopes the event becomes an annual tradition in Pulaski County communities.
Individuals, clubs, sports teams and businesses were encouraged to promote themselves and their creativity through a scarecrow entry. This year’s contest brought 57 total scarecrow entries in the towns of Medaryville, Francesville, Monterey and Winamac.
