Valera M. Pelsy Culp FRANCESVILLE - Valera M. Culp, 94, 101 Constitution Drive, Francesville, passed away at 10:15 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 23, at Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer. She was born Sept. 8, 1913, in Francesville, to Paul and Hannah Boehning Pelsy. She married Walter H. Culp on Dec. 25, 1937 in Francesville. Walter died on Sept. 8, 2004.

Donald H. Ames May 1, 1934 to December 21, 2007 FRANCESVILLE - Donald H. Ames, 73, 209 North US 421, Francesville, passed away at 11a.m., Friday, Dec. 21, at Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville. He was born May 1, 1934, in Francesville to Herbert and Hilda Pingel Ames. He married Darlene J. Hanke on Sept. 24, 1960 in North Judson. She survives.
Also surviving are: Mr. Ames was the publisher, editor and owner of the Francesville Tribune Newspaper from 1971 until 1997. He continued to be associated with the newspaper until 2005. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Worcester during the Korean War. He was a member of the Francesville United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post 228 in Francesville. He was a former trustee of the church and was currently serving as a member of pastor/parish relations committee. He was a former member of the Hoosier State Press Association and the Indiana Republican Editorial Association. He was the grand marshall of the Francesville Fall Festival Parade in 1999 and in 2007. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville. Hannah Louise Poenix WINAMAC - Hannah Louise Poenix, 82, 624 E. 13th St., Winamac, passed away at 8:10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 21, at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac. She was born Sept. 27, 1925, in Rensselaer, to Calvin and Arrah Belle Southard Cain.
Survivors include: Preceded in death by: She was a member of First Christian Church, and the Red Hat Society at the Pulaski Health Care Center. She was a former member of the Pulaski Co. Chorus and a Home Ec Club in Fulton County. She was a longtime resident of Star City, was formerly of Grass Creek, and had been a resident of Winamac since 1992. She was a former employee of Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester, Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, and had been a receptionist for Dr. Eric Meister, Logansport. She was a resident of the Puaski Health Care Center since 1999. Friends may call after 9 a.m., Monday, at First Christian Church. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday (Dec. 24), in First Christian Church, Winamac, with Rev. Glen Meyers officiating. Burial will be in the Star City West Cemetery, Star City. WINAMAC - Sheri L. Betts, 51, of 6320 S. Anthony Blvd., Fort Wayne, died at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 13, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. She was born Sept. 24, 1956, in Quantico, VA, to Andrew and Carmelita Kaylor Torgerson. Survivors include: She was preceded in death by: Sheri worked at Heritage Food Service Equipment and at Sears in Fort Wayne. Graveside services will be scheduled at a later date.
MEDARYVILLE - Infant Lincoln Allen Young, of 14719 W 550 N, Medaryville, was stillborn at 6:45 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. His parents are David and Melissa Salyer Young. Also surviving are: Private graveside services were held Wednesday, Dec. 19, in Goodway

John J. Delworth Jr. ROCHESTER - John J. Delworth Jr., 81, of 918 Sunflower Lane, formerly of 1806 Oakwood Drive, Rochester, died at 12:47 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Miller's Merry Manor, Plymouth. He was born on June 7, 1926, in Valparaiso, the son of John J. and Alice Maude (Stevens) Delworth.On Jan. 2, 1954, in Gary, he married Nora Amabile, and she survives.
Survivors also include daughters, Mary Alice and husband Kevin Hunt, Little Rock, Ark., Patty Delworth, San Francisco, Calif.; sons, Michael and wife Helen Delworth, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Timothy and wife Angie Delworth, West Lafayette, John F. and wife Dana Delworth, Nashville, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Jessica Hunt, Jodi Hunt, Ryan Hunt, all of Little Rock, Ark., Alex Delworth, Carter Delworth, both of West Lafayette, Kate Delworth and Jane Delworth, both of Nashville, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Stevens Delworth. Mr. Delworth graduated from Valparaiso High School in 1944. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. Upon returning home from wars, he graduated from Valparaiso University with a B.A. degree in 1944 and in 1955 with a J.D. degree from Valparaiso School of Law. Mr. Delworth was Fulton Circuit Court Judge in 1966 and the Fulton-Pulaski County Court Judge from 1977-1991. He was the Rochester City Attorney and past president of the Fulton County Bar Association and member of the Indiana Judges Association. Mr. Delworth's civic activities included: past president of the Rochester Kiwanis Club; member board of directors for Fulton County Mental Health Association; member board of director for the Rochester and Lake Manitou Chamber of Commerce; charter and active member of the Fulton County Civic Players; and a charter member of the Rochester Elks Lodge, where he was past exalted ruler, past state president, and held numerous national posts. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he served as a lector, eucharistic minister and parish council member. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, at Zimmerman Bros. Robert G. Fritz WINAMAC - Robert G. Fritz, 84, 7484 W 200 S, Winamac, died at 9:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 10, at his residence. He was born July 20, 1923, in Winamac,to Leslie and Hazel Earhart Fritz. He married Bernice M. Kruger on Dec. 31, 1949, in Monticello. She died Sept. 28, 2003.

FRANCESVILLE - Louise Gutwein Albrecht Heinold, 97, 101 Constitution Drive, Francesville, died at 7:15 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, at Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville. She was born December 11, 1909, in Francesville, the daughter of Fred and Katherine Munz Gutwein. She married Philip F. Albrecht on Jan. 12, 1935 in Winamac. Philip died on July 21, 1959. Louise married Orie M. Heinold on Feb. 15, 1967 in Francesville. Orie died May 8, 2006.

She was born April 28, 1927, in Francesville, to Clyde and Katie Pierpont Hamilton. She married James F. Fisher on March 27, 1946, at Lake Bruce. He died Jan. 14, 1987.

WINAMAC - Paul L. Dulhanty, 71, 1343 S SR 119, Winamac, died at 9:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 7, in his residence. He was born Dec. 22, 1935, in Marion, to Robert and Dorothy Jacobs Dulhanty. He married Marcia E. Moser on July 20, 1954, in Noblesville. She survives.
Also surviving are: Preceded in death by Mr. Dulhanty resided in Winamac the past 45 years, coming from Frankfort. He also was a former resident of Lebanon and Noblesville. He was the former manager of the A&P Store, a former employee of Plymouth Tube and Winamac Steel. He retired from Galbreath Inc., where he was a vice-president and sales manager. He was the founder and former co-owner of the Pizza King, Winamac. He was a member of Moss Creek Country Club. KNOX - James J. Brettin, 77, of Winamac, formerly of Knox, died Friday, Dec. 7 at his home. He was born Sept. 27, 1930 in Bellwood, Ill. to Edward C. and Nora E. (McBride) Brettin. On Aug. 18, 1951, in Knox, he married Vaneada Wolters. She survives. Also surviving are their children, Mark R. Brettin of DeLand, Fla. and Diane Kreighbaum of Plymouth, a sister, Marge Schuster of Knox, brothers, John, Richard, Tim and Matt all of Knox, and one granddaughter, Adrienne Kreighbaum. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Francis "Bill" Brettin. Mr. Brettin served in the U.S. Army, and was a lifetime member of the Winamac VFW and lifetime member of the Knox American Legion. He was a 2007 recipient of the Distinguished Hoosier Award, presented by Senators Charbonneau and Weatherwax and State Representative Dermody. He was retired as president of First Union-Key Bank. He was past president Northern Indiana Chapter of Bank Administration institute, and past president Region II Indiana Bankers Assoc. His civic activities included: past president Knox Community Schools PTA, past chairman Starke County Chapter American Red Cross, past president of both Knox and Winamac Kiwanis Clubs, charter member of North Judson Kiwanis Club, treasurer Starke County Republican Central Committee 1964-1979, treasurer Pulaski County Republican Central Committee 1989-present, past president Winamac Town Board, Winamac Planning Commission, Zoning Appeals, and Economic Development Commission board member, Pulaski County Library Board, past president Pulaski County United Way, past chairman, treasurer and Sunday School teacher at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Knox, present chairman and member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Winamac. Visitation was Monday, Dec. 10 at M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox.

Survivors include: She was preceded in death by: Joan was a member of St. Francis Salano Catholic Church in Francesville, IN. She was a 1961 graduate of Wheatfield High School. WINAMAC - James Dewey Johnson, 81, 342 E. Galbreath Drive, Winamac, passed away at 10:25 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 2, in Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus, Valparaiso. He was born July 18, 1926, in Star City, the son of Harvey and Mary
Hilderbrand Johnson. He married Betty Lou Bair on April 16, 1949. She
died May 28, 1998.
Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Mr. Johnson was a former salesman at Von Tobel Lumber Co in Valparaiso,for
more than 20 years. He has lived in Winamac for six years coming from
Medaryville. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m., Thursday (Dec. 6), at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac, with Karen Altergott officiating. The VFW and American Legion will conduct military graveside services.
MEDARYVILLE - Gilford Wireman, 80, 106 S. Fisher Street, San Pierre, died at 8 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 2, in his residence. He was born Aug. 23, 1927, in Salyersville, KY, to Dewey and Georgianna Bailey Wireman. He married Bonnie Wagner on Oct. 21, 1950 in Monon. She survives.
Also surviving are: He was preceded in death by Mr. Wireman was employed as a die setter at the Ford stamping plant in Chicago Heights for 35 years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. WINAMAC - Helen E. Staffeldt, 92, of 4904 Emerald St., Las Cruces, N.M., formerly of Winamac, died at 9 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 1, in her residence in New Mexico.
She was born Oct. 28, 1915, in Monterey, to Albert and Florence DeMoss Ross. She married Judge Harold R. Staffeldt on June 17, 1948, in Winamac. He died on Aug. 30, 1981. Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Mrs. Staffeldt lived most of her life in the Winamac area and moved to New Mexico in 1990. She was a former employee of the Pulaski County Auditor's Office, a former manager of the Pulaski County License Branch, and a secretary at the Indiana Department of Transportation, Winamac office. She was a member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Winamac, where she was the church organist for 30 years. She also was a member of the Mission Lutheran Church in Las Cruces, NM. Other memberships included the Pulaski County Arts Association, the Pulaski County Extension Choral Club, Life Member of the Pulaski Memorial Hospital Auxillary, and the Women's Guild of St. Luke Lutheran Church. In Las Cruces she was a member of the Memorial Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary and a gardening club. WINAMAC - Retha M. VanDerAa, 87, 515 East 13th Street, Winamac, passed away at 1:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 30, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. She was born July 30, 1920, in Leroy,to Ellic and Hazel Hess Porter. She married Andrew VanDeraa Jr. on Aug. 30, 1940, in Glenwood, IL. He died on Dec. 8, 2006.
Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Mrs. VanDerAa moved to Winamac in 1994, coming from Highland, where she lived most of her life. She was a former school bus driver in Lake County for the physically challenged. She was a member of the Bethel Bible Church. MEDARYVILLE - Martha Jane Timm, 55, 911 E. Main Street, Medaryville, died at 1:36 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30, at her residence, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born April 19, 1952, in Winamac, to Bob J. and Molly Dommer Hoffman. She married Gene Timm on Sept. 4, 1971 at St. Luke United Church of Christ, San Pierre. He survives.
Also surviving are: Mrs. Timm grew up with three sisters in Tefft and graduated from Wheatfield High School in 1970. She also graduated from Lafayette Beauty Academy in 1971. Gene and Martha moved to New Port Richey, FL, where Gene taught high school agriculture and Martha worked as a beautician. They lived in Florida for two years, then returned to Indiana. Gene taught for two more years at Clinton Central, then went to work at Fulmer Seed & Service. Martha worked with Gene at Fulmer Seed & Service and also Timm Services for a number of years. Several years ago Martha took on a less active role in the family businesses to become a full-time grandmother. She taught Good News Clubs, she was a 4-H Leader for 10 years, she taught nursery school in Medaryville for 10 years, she worked with many youth and children's ministries, she mentored area youth, and in the past few years she has been a mentor and teacher to the MOPS program at Bethel Bible Church. Martha was a member of Bethel Bible Church, where she served in a wide variety of roles. Sarah K. Peterson WINAMAC - Sarah K. Peterson, 80, 4770 E 400 N, Monterey, died at 10:38 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 29, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette. She was born April 19, 1927, in Winamac, to John and Jennie Moore Reinholt. She married Amos J. Peterson on March 31, 1949, in Winamac. He survives.
Also surviving are: Preceded in death by: Mrs. Peterson was a former employee of Culver Military Academy at Beason Park. She also worked at the field trials at the Winamac Fish and Wildlife Area. She was a member of the Lawton Christian Church, and was the former president of the Lawton Ladies Aide. She was the church pianist for many years. She also taught Sunday School. MEDARYVILLE - Robert E. "Bert" Teske, 87, 3058 N 1225 W, Medaryville, died at 7:45 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IN.
He was born Sept. 11, 1920, in North Judson, to Ernest and Helen Hartkopf Teske. Survivors include: Earl Teske, Medaryville, Brother Preceded in death by: Mr. Teske He was a farmer. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Medaryville. He lived in Medaryville most of his life. He served in the U.S. Amry Air Force as a radio operater during World War II. WINAMAC - Betty L. Jensen, 55, 7620 E. 850 S, Monterey, died at 1:05 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Hickory Creek, Winamac. She was born July 21, 1952 in Knox, the daughter of Sebern and Icie Bradley Bailey. She married Richard A. Jensen on Nov. 1, 1969 in Monterey. He survives.
Also surviving are: Preceded in death by: Mrs. Jensen had formerly worked as a cook at the Winamac Nursing Home and at the Pulaski Health Care Center. She also had been a sales associate at Mark's New Toto Stores in Toto. While at Mark's she was in charge store sale promotions. Jimmie R. Shidler WINAMAC - Jimmie "Jim" R. Shidler, 68, of 2504 E. Division St., Star City, died at 3:10 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 25, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born Oct. 11, 1939, in Thornhope, to Grover and Dora Ethel Spencer Shidler. He married Debra A. Galbreath on Sept. 25, 1971, in Monticello. She survives.
Also surviving are:: He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmie J. Shidler. Mr. Shidler was a member of the FOE #2580 in Winamac. He was a member of the Star City Church of Christ. Annabelle Mae Fagner WINAMAC - Annabelle Mae Fagner, 86, 624 E. 13th St., Winamac, died at 4:40 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 22, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. She was born May 12, 1921, in Warren, to William and Edna Back Pennington. She was married to Russell Orville Fagner on Sept. 5, 1942 in Delong. He died May 30, 1985.
Survivors include Marshall (Annamarie) Fagner, Winamac, Son Preceded in death by: Morris Fagner Son Mrs. Fagner attended Ora Gospel Chapel. She was a 20 member of T.O.P.S. She was also a longtime member of the Pulaski Memorial Hospital Auxillary and volunteered as a Pink Lady at the hospital. She was a retired seamstress and had worked at the Rice Corp. in Winamac and Hart, Shafner, and Marx in Rochester. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m., Saturday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Sunday (Nov. 25), in Frain Mortuary with Pastor Don Franklin officiating. Burial will be in the McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac. Memorial Contributions may be given to the Ora Gospel Chapel Missions Fund. ROCHESTER - Mary M. Good, 83, of 6168 N. 640 East, Monterey, died at 9:19 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth, following a short illness. Born March 13, 1927 in Chicago, she was the daughter of William and Anna Bochausen Sparks. On April 25, 1953, in San Pierre, she married Donald Owen Good. They were married 54 years when he preceded her in death on June 26, 2007. Survivors include two daughters, Dixie Good, Rochester, and Debbie Machamer and husband Patrick, Winamac; two sons, Don Good and wife Margaret and Dean Good and wife Gwen, all of Monterey; 10 grandchildren, Josh and Kyle Sefchek, Holly, Alyssa, Lindsey and Caitlin Machamer, Nikki Earp and husband Ross, Erin Good, Weston and Wyatt Good; a brother, Chester Sparks; and two sisters-in-law, Onda Good of North Manchester and Pauline Good of Monterey. A 1942 graduate of San Pierre High School, she lived in the Monterey community for the past 50 years after moving from Lawton. A homemaker, she was also the business manager, co-founder and co-owner of Good Oil Company, Winamac. She was a member of Monterey United Methodist Church and the Monterey Birthday Club. She was a Cadet Girl Scout leader. Friends may visit with the family from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday at
Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, and one hour
prior to the service Saturday at the church. Her funeral service will
be at 10 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 17) at Monterey United Methodist Church
with the Rev. Karen K. Rhoades Welling officiating. Burial will be at
Riverside Cemetery, Monterey. Memorials may be made to the Don andMary

Mary Martha Hardesty MEDARYVILLE - Mary Martha Hardesty, 97, of 6614 W CR 800 N, Royal Center, formery of Medaryville, passed away at 10:40 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 1, at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac. She was born Sept. 1, 1910, in Newton County, to Conrad and Minnie Wolf. She married Raymond Edward Hardesty on Aug. 24, 1935. He preceeded her in death.
Survivors include George L. Malchow, Idaville, Son-in-law Preceded in death by Mrs. Hardesty lived most of her life in Medaryville. She was a 1927 graduate of Klondike High School in West Lafayette, and a member of the Medaryville Christian Church. She was a former 4-H Leader. She was a former postmaster of the Medaryville Post Office. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Medaryville.Services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday (Nov. 5), at the funeral chapel, with Don Nedza officiating.
