James Patrick Hein WINAMAC - James Patrick Hein, 46, of 2559 W 600 N, Winamac, passed away at 3:13 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 31, in Pulaski Memorial Hospital,Winamac. He was born Aug. 31, 1962, in Logansport, to Charles and Eleanor Henley Hein.
Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Mr. Hein graduated from Winamac High School in 1980. He also graduated from Manchester College and Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne. He studied and was fluent in many languages. He was a quality control engineer in the auto foundry and casting manufacturing industry. He was fomerly employed in the air cargo industry in Fort Wayne as a materials handler. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Sunday (Jan. 4), at the funeral home with Rev. Bert Woolson officiating. Diane Christine Bauer WINAMAC - Diane Christine Bauer, 40, of 6782 N. Maple St., Monterey, passed away at 6:15 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 30, in St. Vincent Medical Center, Indianapolis. She was born April 17, 1968, in Winamac to Francis Theodore and Patricia Margaret Scheuer Bauer.
Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Ms. Bauer graduated from Culver Community High School in 1986. She graduated from Vincennes University where she earned her LPN Degree. She worked as a nurse for over 20 years. She was employed at Pulaski Health Care Center, Winamac. She was a former employee of Miller's Merry Manor in Culver and Plymouth, Hickory Creek at Winamac, and Manor House at Chase Center, Logansport. She was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, Monterey. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m., Friday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The rosary will be recited at 7:15 p.m., Friday, followed by a scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m., Friday in the funeral home. Berniece A. Simshauser WINAMAC - Berniece A. Simshauser, 90, of 320 W. Main St., Winamac, passed away at 11:22 a.m., Monday, Dec. 29, in Pulaski Health Care Center, Winamac. She was born Nov. 23, 1918, in Kewanna, to Howard and Etta Hornbeck Zellers. She married Clarence H. Simshauser on Feb. 14, 1939, in Kewanna. He survives. Also surviving are: Preceded in death by: Mrs. Simshauser was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, and the Christian Mothers, Winamac. She was a former Deputy Pulaski Co. Recorder, and a secretary at the Pulaski Co. Public Library, Winamac. A memorial funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, in St. Peter's Catholic Church, Winamac, with Rev. Martin Sandhage officiating. Memorial donations may be given to St. Peter's Catholic Church window fund.
Thomas Arthur Hickman WINAMAC - Thomas Arthur Hickman, 65, 341 W. Main St., Winamac, died at 9:18 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 25, at Hickory Creek, Winamac. He was born Aug. 24, 1943, in Rochester, to Eldon and Violet Pugh Hickman.
Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Mr. Hickman was employed as a shearer operator at Galbreath Inc. in Winamac. He retired after 28 years with the company. He was a member of the Kokomo Deaf Club, Indiana Bass Anglers and Winamac Eagles. He was a graduate of the Indiana Deaf School in Indianapolis. Ralph Richard Clark WINAMAC - Ralph Richard Clark, 87, of 802 N. Market St., Winamac, passed away at 10 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 24, at Pulaski Health Care Center, Winamac. He was born Jan. 27, 1921, in Monterey, to Harry and Mattie Chapman Clark. He married Audrey Clark on Aug. 3,1946 in Winamac. She survives.
Also surviving are: He was preceded in death by: Mr. Clark served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He received the Bronze Star. He was a member of the VFW Post #1728 in Winamac. He attended the Tippecanoe Christian Church. He was a member of the carpenter's union and worked in commercial construction. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Monday (Dec. 29), at the funeral home with Pastor Douglas Baker and Pastor Carl Lendermon officiating. Wayne Thomas "Mike" Guthrie Jr. WINAMAC - Wayne Thomas "Mike" Guthrie Jr., 66, 1028 N. Agnew St., Winamac, passed away at 3:07 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 24, at Advocate Bethany Hospital, Chicago. He was born July 7, 1942, in Chicago, to Wayne and Clara Stankus Guthrie Sr. He married Belinda Sue Blackburn on June 2, 1990, in Winamac. She survives.
Also surviving are: Preceded in death by: Mr. Guthrie grew up in Mokena, IL. He joined the U.S. Army in 1959 and was honorably discharged. He was a Lutheran by faith. He worked in the shipyards in Illinois. He onced owned a radiator welding business in Fulton County. He then worked at Eaton until it closed. While at Eaton he was a vice-president and committeeman with the UAW. He was one of two union reps during the closing of the Four County Landfill. His last job was with Braun Corporation. He held three journeyman cards as a pipefitter, electrician, and x-ray welder. He was a former member of the Eagles. He was a former member of a ham radio club. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday (Dec. 31), at Winamac
Cemetery, Winamac, with Pastor Denny Wilson officiating. The American
Legion and the VFW will conduct military graveside services.
Olive E. White MEDARYVILLE - Olive E. "Sally" White, 88, of 13262 West 100 North, Medaryville, passed away at 9:44 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 14, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. She was born Oct. 30, 1920 in East Chicago, to Orvis and Mary Walter Salrin. She married Orville H. "Pete" White on June 26, 1948, in Medaryville. He died on April 17, 2003.
She is survived by: She was preceded in death by: Mrs. White was a life long resident of Medaryville and graduated from Medaryville High School. She received a nursing degree from the Gary Methodist School of Nursing, and was commissioned into the U.S. Navy Nursing Corps during World War II, stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Station. She achieved the rank of Lt.(JG). She was a member of the Winamac American Legion Post #71. She attended the University of Michigan and received a degree in public health. She received a B.S. and M.S. from Indiana University while teaching at the Van Rensselaer Elementary School in Rensselaer. She taught in the Rensselaer school system for 23 years. During that time she kept her nursing license active. Following her retirement, Mrs. White volunteered at the Arrowhead RC&D where she and her husband taught many classes on wildlife habitat and forestry and nature in the classroom. She was a charter member of the Aim-Hi Extension Club. She also became the state president of the Extension Homemakers Club. She was a lifetime member of the Medaryville United Methodist Church. She and her husband traveled all over the U.S., Europe and Asia. They traveled to China in 1980. They hosted several high school exchange students from Central and South America. FRANCESVILLE - Sylvan J. Wenger, 78, of 101 Constitution Drive, Francesville, passed away at 4:05 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 13, at Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville.
He was born Nov. 3, 1930, in Francesville, to John and Elizabeth Wenger, who preceded him in death. Mr. Wenger formerly owned and operated an appliance repair business on Main Street in Lafayette. When his mother became ill he returned to Francesville. He graduated from Francesville High School. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean War. He was a member of the Francesville Apostolic Christian Church. Friends may call after 1 p.m., Tuesday, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Francesville. Mamie R. Jentz FRANCESVILLE - Mamie R. Jentz, 93, of 406 W. Gordon Street, Francesville, passed away at 4:25 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville. She was born Jan. 23, 1915, in Medaryville, to Charles and Emma Sonnenberg Shedrow. She married Harry L. Jentz on Feb. 20, 1943, in Pulaski County. He died Feb. 5, 1987.
Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Mrs. Jentz was a former cook at Jasper County Hospital, Rensselaer, and Parkview Haven Retirement Home, Francesville. She also had been a custodian at West Central High School, Francesville. She had operated Mamie Rosina's Gift Shop from her home for over 15 years. In her early years she lived in Chicago and worked as a nanny. When she returned to Francesville she provided home care to new mothers and infants.She was a member of St. James-Salem United Church of Christ, Francesville. WINAMAC - Phillip P. Solberg, 74, of 716 N. Plymouth Rd., Winamac, passed away at 2:56 p.m, Friday, Dec. 5, 2008 at his residence. He was born Nov. 1, 1934, in Chicago, to Willard and Marcella Angsten Solberg.
Survivors include: Mr. Solberg was a plumber and had served in the U.S. Marine Corps during
the Korean No services will be held. Helen F. Podell WINAMAC - Helen F. Podell, 88, of 6496 N 450 W, Winamac, passed away at 8:25 p.m., Monday, Dec. 1, in Pulaski Health Care Center, Winamac. She was born Sept. 26, 1920, in Medaryville, to William and Opal Kassner Timm. She married Lowell R. Podell on June 6, 1942, in Hammond. He survives.

FRANCESVILLE - Matthew Ryan Leman, 22, of 9660 North 200 West, Monon, , passed away at 10:57 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 27, at his residence. He was born Jan. 20, 1986, in Lafayette, to Michael and Tina Hahn Leman of Francesville.
Matt is survived by: Matt was preceded in death by: Mr. Leman was a 2004 graduate of West Central High School in Francesville. He was employed at Lazy C Farms in Francesville.He attended Bethel Bible Church in Winamac. He was looking forward to his upcoming marriage to Patti and the arrival of their unborn child. WINAMAC - Jennings D. "J.D." Tanner, 84, of 3070 North Tanner 1, Winamac, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 26, in Waterman Hospital, Eustis, FL. He was was born Aug. 29, 1924, in Rensselaer, to Willard and Golden Wolfe Tanner. He Married Lois Alberta Nickels on Dec. 18, 1946 at Medaryville United Methodist Church. She survives. Also surviving are: Preceded in death by: Mr. Tanner was a retired farmer. He served as a Pulaski County Commissioner from 1969 until 1976. He retired from the Indiana Department of Transportation as the Winamac Division State Highway Superintendent. He had worked as a heavy equipment operator for Stone Equipment in Plymouth, and for Skinner Construction in Elkhart. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a military policeman in the Philippines.He was a member of the VFW Post 1728 in Winamac. He was also a member of the Monterey United Methodist Church and the Men's Club of the church. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. John W. Nightingale Jr. MEDARYVILLE - John William Nightingale Jr., 55, of 14 East 2nd Street, Peru, passed away at 3 a.m., Monday, Nov. 24, at his residence in Peru. He was born April 18, 1953, in Lafayette, to John and Betty Banes Nightingale Sr.. Survivors include: Mr. Nightingale was a former resident of Medaryville. He lived in Peru most of his life. He graduated from West Central High School in 1971. He also graduated from an automotive technical school. He served in the U.S. Army for two years. He was a guitarist. He was a former candidate for Mayor of Peru. Friends may call after 11 a.m.until the hour of the funeral service at 1 p.m., Saturday (Nov. 29), at Medaryville Assembly of God. Rev. Samuel N. Decker HORSESHOE BEND, ARK. - Samuel N. Decker, 84, died Nov. 22, at his home in Horseshoe Bend, Ark. He was born May 3, 1924 in Indian Creek Twp. in Pulaski County, Ind., the son of Leroy and Lowena Decker. He married Martha A. Simms on Aug. 20, 1948. Mr. Decker was a 1942 graduate of Pulaski High School, and then served in the U.S. Air Force. He earned degrees from Hanover College and Indiana University, and studied in France on a Fulbright Scholarship. He taught French at Shorewood High School in Milwaukee, Wis. for 26 years. The Deckers lived on Lake Michigan at Belgium, Wis. until they moved to Horseshoe Bend in 2006.
Pauline "Polly" Good WINAMAC - Pauline "Polly" Good, 81, of Maple Street, Monterey, died at 5:25 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Miller's Merry Manor, Culver. She was born Aug. 1, 1927, in Monterey, to Edward and Ida Appler Master. She married Lorin C. Good on Jan., 13, 1947 in Monterey. He died August 8, 1969.
Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Mrs. Good was the owner and operator of Polly's Beauty Shop in Monterey. She was an active member and organist at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Monterey. She frequently played the organ at other churches in the area. She was a member of the Altar & Rosary Sodality. She also taught music class at St. Anne's Catholic School in Monterey. She served as the secretary for the American Legion Auxillary Post #399 in Monterey. She was president of the Pulaski County Human Services Board of Directors. She was an active member of the Monterey Birthday Club. She had been a 4-H Leader, and was a member of the Pulaski Memorial Hospital Auxillary. WINAMAC - James A. Ehlers, 60, of 443 North US 35, Winamac, passed away at 10:15 a.m., Monday, Nov. 17, at his residence. He was born October 12, 1948, in South Bend, to Robert and Lorraine Cloetingh Ehlers.
Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Mr. Ehlers had lived in Winamac for the past 10 years, coming from Fort Wayne. He was a native of South Bend. He also was a former resident of Indianapolis. He was a practicing attorney with his own firm in Winamac. He was a member of the Pulaski County and Indiana Bar Associations. He was a member of the Winamac Kiwanis Club. He was a former president of the Pulaski County Community Foundation board of directors. There is an unrestricted fund established in his honor at the Community Foundation. Mr. Ehlers graduated from John Adams High School in South Bend. He completed his undergraduate education at Miami University (Ohio). He graduated from the Indiana University School of Law. He was an avid horseman. He hunted with the Romwell Fox Hunt in Indianapolis for five years. Friends may call after 11 a.m., Saturday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The Winamac Kiwanis Club will conduct a service at 12:30 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m., (Saturday, Nov. 22), at the funeral home. Robert Eugene Shorter WINAMAC - Robert Eugene Shorter, 75, of 627 N. Hathaway St., Winamac, passed away at 1:50 p.m., Monday, Nov. 10, at his residence in Winamac. He was born June 28, 1933, in Winamac, to George and Alvina Shedrow Shorter. He married Carole A. Smith on June 1, 1957, in St. Peter's Catholic Church, Winamac. She survives.
Also surviving are: Preceded in death by: Mr. Shorter was retired from Embarq Communications (formerly United Telephone and Sprint). He was employed there for 40 years as a lineman and communications technician. He developed a device to test phone lines that was widely used. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Alaska from 1953-1955. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, where he had been a greeter. He was also a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus #1561, Winamac, and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Rensselaer. He was a very active member in the organization, reaching the level of Grand Knight. He was also a member of the Winamac Lion's Club. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. A scriptural wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Immediately following, the Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m, Friday (Nov. 14), at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Winamac, with Rev. Martin Sandhage officiating. Burial will be in the St. Peter's Cemetery, Winamac. FRANCESVILLE - Mary Jane Stotler, 86, of 2127 South 800 West, Francesville, passed away at 3:32 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 8, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. She was born Aug. 27, 1922, in Denham, to James and Anna Clark Rater. She married Gearld Junior Stotler on Aug. 10, 1946 at Leiters Ford. He survives.
Also surviving are: She was preceded in death by: Mrs. Rater was a farm wife. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Winamac. Memorial donations may be given to First Christian Church. Margery Eileen Owens FRANCESVILLE - Margery Eileen Owens, 86, of 410 N. Arch St., Monon, passed away at 10:38 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1, at her residence. She was born June 3, 1922, in Momence, IL, to Daniel and Grace Porter Greenawalt. She married Charles M. Owens on Dec. 23, 1950, in Monon. He passed away July 3, 1983.
Survivors includ: Preceded in death by: Mrs. Owens was a retired bookkeeper for Howard and Son's John Deere dealership in Monon and Monticello. She was employed there for 52 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Monon. She was very active in the Monon community her entire life and was a lifetime resident. William Ingram WINAMAC - William Ingram, 69, of 233 East Ada St., Francesville, passed away at 9:30a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 29, at St. Vincent Heart Center of Indiana, Indianapolis. He was born October 12, 1939, in Kewanna, to Charles and Lillian Nelson Ingram. He married Mary A. Hoover on Nov. 27, 1970, DeMotte. She survives.
Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Mr. Ingram lived in Francesville since 1990. He moved there from Beaufort, NC, where he had lived for 12 years. He was a native of Kewanna. Jerry Lynn Boehning Jerry Lynn Boehning, 55, of 523 Brown Street Apt 1, Lafayette, passed away at 2:04 a.m., Monday, Oct. 27, 2008 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette. He was born July 21, 1953, in Gary, to Virgil and Catherine Hoeferlin Boehning. He married Karen McLochlin on July 27, 1974.
Survivors include: He was preceded in death by: Mr. Boehning joined the U. S. Marine Corps at age 17. He served in the Phillipenes and in Vietnam. He was a member of AMVETS. George Theodore Hazlett Sr. MEDARYVILLE - George Theodore "Ted" Hazlett Sr., 79, of 302 S. Jefferson St., Medaryville, passed away at 4:20 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008 at Brentwood Sub Acute Center in Burbank, IL. He was born May 4, 1929, in Medaryville, to Ames and Nellie Bennett Hazlett. He married Doris Mae Paris on Jan. 31, 1954, in Monticello. She died on Nov. 29, 2005.
Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Mr. Hazlett was a member of the Medaryville United Methodist Church, Medaryville Lion's Club, and the White Post Masonic Lodge #658 F&AM. He was a former supervisor at RCA in Monticello. He was also a retired janitor for the West Central Schools. He lived in Medaryville his entire life. MEDARYVILLE - Ervin Freshour, 95, of 3116 N 430 E, Medaryville, passed away at 12:40 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 16, at Starke Memorial Hospital in Knox.
He was born June 6, 1913, in Gillam Township, Jasper County, to Ralph and Myrtle Poisel Freshour. His first marriage was to Esther Penrod. She died July 3, 1944. He married Jeanetta Sutherlin on Aug. 14, 1948, in Medaryville. She survives. Mr. Freshour was a retired farmer and lived his entire life in Medaryville. He was a member of the Medaryville United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday School superintendant and trustee. He was a 50-year member of the White Post Masonic Lodge #658 F&AM, Medaryville. He was also a member of the Music Box Society and enjoyed attending their meetings. Mr. Freshour attended Independence School and graduated from Medaryville High School in 1931. He was presented the Hoosier Homestead Farm Award on Oct. 29, 2002, in Indianapolis, for the farm being in the Freshour name for over 100 years. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Medaryville. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m., Saturday, in the funeral home. Darrell Lee Culp FRANCESVILLE - Darrell Lee Culp, 63, 531 South 250 East, Francesville, passed away at 1:20 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 11, at his residence in Francesville. He was born April 30, 1945, in Rensselaer, to Clyde and Marjorie Gerbracht Culp. He married Bonnie Walters on Dec. 21, 1968 at the United Methodist Church in Francesville. She survives.

He also taught agriculture at Ireland, IN. Robert Lee Dixon WINAMAC - Robert Lee Dixon, 70, 5905 S. Prairie Street, Star City, passed away at 5:05 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the VA Regional Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was born July 29, 1938, in Spencer, W.V., to Thomas and Bessie Tolley Dixon. He married Jean Crissinger on June 5, 1976 in Star City.
Also surviving are: Preceded in death by: Mr. Dixon moved to the Beaver Township area in 1964 coming from West Virginia. He worked construction and as a mechanic when he lived in West Virginia. After moving to Indiana he worked on the saw mill and at Monon Trailer in Monon. He served in the U.S. Air Force as an airplane mechanic. He was a member of the Tippecanoe Christian Church, and was a former member of the Rochester Moose Lodge. Friends may call after 11 a.m., Saturday (Oct. 11), at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral servicewill follow at 4 p.m., with Rev. Edward Clark and Rev. Lynda Hosek officiating. The American Legion and VFW will conduct military services at the funeral home following the services. Memorial donations may be given to the National Kidney Foundation.
WINAMAC - Estelle M. Hounchell, 65, 1228 E 700 S, Star City, passed away at 5:45 p.m., Monday, Oct. 6, in her residence. She was born June 13, 1943, in Chicago, to Charles and Ane Hansen Mitchell. She married Bobby E. Hounchell on Sept. 30, 1978, in Winamac. He died March 2, 2007. Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Mrs. Hounchell was a former employee of Singer Controls, Winamac. A memorial service will begin at 12 noon, Saturday (Oct. 11), at the family residence, 1228 E 700 S, Star City, with Brent Kirby officiating. Burial will be in Star City West Cemetery, Star City. WINAMAC - Doris Jean Plowman, 81, 721 N. Falvey, Winamac, passed away at 9:20 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 4, at Life Care Center, Rochester. She was born Sept. 19, 1927, in Earlsbourgh, OK, to Morlan and Muzzette Troope Keller. She married Virgil R. Plowman on Dec. 11, 1945, in Piggott, Ark. He survives.
Also surviving: Preceded in death by: Mrs. Plowman was a former telephone operator for AT&T. She lived in the Winamac area since 1980, coming from Griffith.
