Orlyn K. Kasten WINAMAC - Orlyn K. "Bud" Kasten, 82, 224 East Franks Blvd., Winamac, passed away at 8:33 p.m., Monday, April 28, at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac. He was born Feb. 14, 1926, in Wheatfield, to James and Frances Hibbs Kasten. He married Lois Lowry on Dec. 10, 1949 in Winamac. She survives.
Survivors include: He was preceded in death by: Mr. Kasten was a member of First United Methodist Church in Winamac. He was also a member of the Winamac American Legion Post, Gold Wing Motorcycle Association and the National Rural Letter Carriers Association. He was a retired farmer and rural mail carrier for the Winamac Post Office. He served in the Pacific theater in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m., Wednesday, at Frain Mortuary. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday (May 1), at the funeral home with Rev. Dan Burgess officiating. Burial will be in McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac. The American Legion and the VFW will conduct military graveside services. Hugh Edward Wilbourn FRANCESVILLE - Hugh Edward "Eddie" Wilbourn, 71, 6879 S SR 119, Star City, passed away at 9:15 a.m., Saturday, April 26, at his residence. He was born December 18, 1936, in Scottsboro, AL, to Mattie Pearl. He married Linda Henry on Feb. 14, 1993 in DeMotte. She survives.
Survivors include: He was preceded in death by: Mr. Wilbourn had worked at Postma Cartage in Riverdale, Ill. as a diesel mechanic. He was a former resident of Gurley, Ala., Dolton, Ill. and DeMotte. He served in the Army National Gaurd. Friends may call after 9 a.m., Saturday, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Francesville. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m., Saturday (May 3), at the funeral home with Pastor James Ketchen officiating. Military services will be held at the funeral home following the memorial service.
MEDARYVILLE - Gregg Allen Tarr, Sr., 52, of Medaryville, passed away at 1:10 a.m., Friday, April 25, in Southlake Methodist Hospital, Merrillville. He was born on Sept. 6, 1955, in LaPorte, to Donald and Arlene Miller Tarr. In 1976 he married Sonia Koch, and together they raised 12 children in Medaryville.
He is survived by 11 children, Jason (Wendy) Tarr, Joshua (Jessica) Tarr both of Francesville, Jamie Tarr, Gregg (Jessica) Tarr, Jr., Dustin Tarr, Keith Tarr, all of Medaryville; Amanda Tarr, Kyle Tarr, Jarvis Tarr, Alyssa Tarr and Abagail Tarr all of Gibson, Ga; 11 grandchildren, brother, Dennis (Sue) Tarr of LaPorte, two sisters, Joy (Paul) Turner of Fishlake, and Vall (Tim) Thompson of Denver City, NC; four nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Tarr and son, Cole Tarr. Mr. Tarr formerly resided in LaPorte, moving to Medaryville in 1989. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army from August 1972 through August 1975. He was an employee of Vanguard National Trailer Corporation in Monon. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m., Tuesday (April 29), at the funeral home with Don Nedza officiating. Albert J. Weaver WINAMAC - Albert James Weaver, 82, 1802 E 400 S, Star City, passed away at 2:20 a.m., Monday, April 21, at his residence. He was born May 14, 1925, in Pulaski, to Leander and Lenora Kuhn Weaver. He married Rosemary Ruff on June 18, 1947 in Pulaski. She survives.
Also surviving are: He was preceded in death by: Mr. Weaver was a farmer in Star City for most of his life. He played basketball at the Pulaski High School, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Winamac. scriptural wake service will begin at 4 p.m., immediately followed by
a rosary service. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday
(April 24) at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Winamac, with Rev. Martin

Emmons C. Hagadon MEDARYVILLE - Emmons C. Hagadon, 92, 5594 E 375 N, Medaryville, passed away at 11:40 p.m., Monday, April 21, at Rensselaer Care Center, Rensselaer. He was born Feb. 28, 1916, in Albion, MI, to Charles and Carrie Bennett Hagadon. Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Mr. Hagadon was a retired steel worker with US Steel in Gary. He was a member of the Church of the Latter Day Saints. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served in World War II. He was a former resident of Gary and Dyer. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. CDT Saturday (April 26),
in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville. Friends may call after

FRANCESVILLE - Joseph Edward Younce Jr., 41, 817 N. Jefferson St., Rensselaer, passed away at 12:21 a.m., Saturday, April 19, at Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer. He was born Feb. 22, 1967, in South Bend, to Joseph and Barbara Price Younce. He married Michelle Louise Leipert on Oct. 31, 1996, in Rensselaer. She survives.
Also surviving are:: Mr. Younce lived in Francesville most of his life. He graduated from West Central High School in 1986. He was an all-state football player and also played basketball and ran track for West Central. He was employed at Max L Farms in Rensselaer. FRANCESVILLE - Infant Lauren Elyse Huber, 1 day, daughter of Chad and Pam Huber of Winamac, passed away Thursday, April 17, at Mandeville Regional Hospital in Mandeville, Jamaica. She was born prematurely at Mandeville Regional Hospital on April 16. Her family currently serves as missionaries in Jamaica. She is survived by: Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac, and one hour prior to services at the church in Francesville on Wednesday. The funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday (May 14), at the Apostolic Christian Church in Francesville with the ministers of the church officiating. the Deaf. Catherine C. Ash WINAMAC - Catherine C. Ash, 86, 818 North Falvey St., Winamac, passed away at 11:30 a.m., Monday, April 14, in Miller's Merry Manor, Logansport. She was born Jan. 16, 1922 in Redkey, the daughter of Lewis and Sylvia B. Berrier Wandry. She married Arthur L. Ash on Dec. 26, 1941 in Winamac. He died Aug. 2, 2000.
Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Mrs. Ash was a longtime employee of the Pulaski County License Branch, and had also been employed at Eaton Controls, Winamac. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church and the VFW Post No. 1728 Auxiliary, both of Winamac. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. H. Arthur Sutton WINAMAC - Harold Arthur Sutton, 71, 601 E 800 N, Monterey, passed away at 6:54 p.m., Friday, April 11, at his residence.. He was born April 9, 1937, in Star City, to Harold and Florence Frushour Sutton. He married Sybil O. Craigmile on April 29, 1962, in Winamac. She survives.
Also surviving are: Mr. Sutton was a Pulaski County Commissioner for four years, and served as a Pulaski County Councilman for three years. He developed the Pulaski County Rural Address System, and directed the system's implementation and monitored it for two years. He served on the Pulaski County Human Services board of directors, the Pulaski County Drainage Board and the Pulaski County Community Development Commission Board. He served eight years on the Eastern Pulaski Community School Board . Gov. Mitch Daniels recently awarded Sutton the Sagamore of the Wabash. The presentation was made by State Sen. Tom Weatherwax. Sutton graduated from Star City High School in 1956. He also graduated from Indiana Business College with an associatedegree and attended Indiana State University. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1959-1960. He retired from farming in 1992. He was a member of Winamac Masonic Lodge #262. He was a member of the Winamac Presbyterian Church and served on the church board and property and personnel committees. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Frain Mortuary; and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. Roger Alan Grady KOKOMO - Roger Alan Grady, 64, Kokomo, died 10 a.m. Friday, April 11, in Winona, Minn., as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born May 1, 1943 in Clearwater, Fla., the son of Roger Joseph and Laura Mae Turner Grady. On June 3, 1978 in Louisville, Ky., he married Linda Dianne Owen, who survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Renee Grady and Kathleen Anne Grady; one grandson, Daniel Riley Sizemore, all of Kokomo; two sisters, Rita Ann Grady and her husband George Fiegle of Winfield, IL, and their two daughters, Kelsey Rose Fiegle and Lindsay Leigh Fiegle; Carol Jeanne Grady of Lowell; his mother-in-law, Anna C. Owen of Toledo, OH; two brothers-in-law, William E. Owen and his wife Lucille of Rochester, MN and their five children; Thomas S. Owen and his wife Donna of Colorado Springs, CO; two sisters-in-law: Margaret K. (Owen) Reynolds and her husband Alfred of Charlottesville, VA, and their six children, and Mary J. (Owen) Dery and her husband Serge of Toledo, OH, and their six children. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Patrick Joseph Grady and his father-in-law, Stanley H. Owen. Mr. Grady was a 1961 graduate of Star City High School, Star City, and a 1964 graduate of Tri-State College, Angola. He retired from Delco Electronics in 1999 after more than 25 years of service. In retirement he worked part time for EDS until 2006. He also spent countless hours volunteering at St. Joan of Arc Church and Sts. Joan of Arc and Patrick School working on computers, sound engineering and various other technology related projects. He had served as secretary of the Kokomo Repeater Club and had been
active in amateur television (ATV). He was also a member of Radio Amateur
Civil Emergency Services (RACES) for 18 years and received the Indiana
Technical Excellence award in 2000. He was a mentor to many amateurs
in Howard County, freely sharing his knowledge and expertise. As a ham,
he enjoyed storm spotting and was an active member of the Skywarn network.
He was also an active member of the American Theater Organ Society. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3144 S. 200 West. Rev. Frs. Theodore Dudzinski, Andrew Dudzinski and David Hasser will be the celebrants. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. Memorial donations may be made to Sts. Joan of Arc and Patrick School and/or St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with envelopes available at the church. FRANCESVILLE - Mary Frances Wolter, 78, 502 West Jackson Street, Mulberry, passed away at 10:45 a.m., Thursday, April 10, at the Mulberry Health and Retirement Center, Mulberry. She was born Sept. 20, 1929, in Lafayette, to Clinton and Julia Wright Marshall. She married Robert Carl Wolter on May 29, 1952 in Lafayette. He died on June 24, 1984. Loraine K. Geyer FRANCESVILLE - Loraine K. Geyer, 51, 255 Park Ave., Francesville, passed away at 9:50 a.m., Wednesday, April 9, in Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare, Monticello. She was born Nov. 24, 1956, in Monticello, to Arthur and Roberta Houston Geyer.
Survivors include She was preceded in death by Ms. Geyer was a member of the Indiana Pharmacy and the Arizona Pharmacy Associations and the John Purdue Club. She was also a member of the Purdue Alumni Association. She graduated from West Central High School in 1974 and received a pharmacy degree from Purdue University in 1979. She worked for Hooks Pharmacy, Fagen Pharmacy and Walgreens Pharmacy in Indiana and Walgreens Pharmacy in Arizona. WINAMAC - Arnold E. "Jack" Shidler, 83, 821 South Market St., Winamac, passed away at 9:35 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac. He was born June 12, 1924, in Royal Center, to Thomas and Ruth Biddle Shidler Sr. He married Norma L. Smith on Sept. 20, 1969, in Plymouth. She survives.
Also surviving are: He was preceded in death by: Mr. Shidler retired from Whallon Machine in Royal Center, as a machinist in 2001. He owned Jack's Tropical Fish in Winamac, and Tulsa, OK, for several years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 until 1946. He received the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in combat and the Silver Star Medal. He was a life member of the Winamac VFW Post 1728, life member of the DAV and a life member of the 80th Division Veterans Association. He was a former member of the Winamac Eagles club. Mr. Shidler was also a member of the Pulaski Presbyterian Church. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. Diana L. Walls WINAMAC - Diana L. Walls, 55, 3414 S 325 E, Star City, passed away at 12:58 p.m., Sunday, April 6, at her residence. She was born Sept. 7, 1952, in Elkhart, to Paul and Ethel Akin Canen Sr.
Survivors include: Mrs. Walls was a homemaker and a CNA working at Miller's Merry Manor in Culver. She lived in Star City for the past four years, coming from Elkhart. Robert Dean March WINAMAC - Robert Dean March, 67, 2320 South 50 East Winamac, died at 6:32 p.m., Thursday, April 3, at his residence. He was born April 22, 1940 in Pulaski, the son of the late Darl and Essie Parish March. He married Sharon Linback on June 14, 1985 in Winamac. She survives.
Also surviving are: Preceded in death by: Mr. March served as athletic director and dean of students at Winamac Community High School from 1981 until his retirement in 1998. He taught at Knox High School from 1962-1965 and at Winamac High School from 1965-1981. He taught driver's education, government, economics, psychology, sociology and U.S. history. He also coached baseball, track and basketball. Since his retirement, he served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Winamac Lady Warriors. He had also helped his wife coach the Winamac middle school girls basketball team for several years. He officiated basketball games for many years. He was a member of the Indiana Basketball Officials Association and the Indiana Basketball Coachs Association. Mr. March graduated from Winamac High School in 1958, and received a bachelor's degree from Tulane University in 1962 where he attended on a basketball scholarship. He received a master's degree from Indiana State University in 1969. He was a member of the District 1 Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. He recieved the Charles F. Mass Distinguished Service Award in March 1998. He served on the board of directors of the Rochester Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winamac. Opaline Risner MEDARYVILLE - Opaline Risner, 71, 0989 North 500 West, LaPorte, passed away at 7:07 p.m., Sunday, March 30, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. She was born April 26, 1936, in Ivyton, Ky., to Wiley and Martha Hopkins Bailey. She married Harold H. Risner on Nov. 21, 1952. He died on Dec. 15, 2006.
Survivors include: She was preceded in death by: Mrs. Risner was a former resident of Medaryville, Michigan City and LaPorte. She was a homemaker and had worked at the Portis Hat Co. in Michigan City and had been a seamstress and union steward at the Eastmore Garment Factory in Michigan City. She was also packer and inspector at the Whirlpool Co in LaPorte. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel Medaryville. Robert W. Haring MEDARYVILLE - Robert Willard Haring, 79, 16731 Base Road West, Medaryville, passed away at 10:16 a.m., Thursday, March 27, at his residence. He was born June 2, 1928, in Monon, to Clayton and Irene Walley Haring. He married Phyllis Jo Fulmer on May 18, 1952 in Medaryville. She died Aug. 30, 1996.
He is survived by: He was preceded in death by: Mr. Haring served as a Seaman First Class on the USS Sierra in the US Navy from 1946 until 1947. He attended school at the Medaryville and Teft schools. He was a farmer and had also worked at the Allis Chalmers Company in LaPorte. He had been a mechanic at the Winamac Sales-Case dealership in Francesville. He had also worked at the Tee-Pak Company in Winamac. He attended the Medaryville Methodist Church. Howard E. Vaught WINAMAC - Howard E. Vaught, 74, 1796 West 225 North, Winamac, passed away at 2:46 a.m., Friday, March 21, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. He was born June 4, 1933, in Kentucky to William and Florence Pemberton Vaught. He married Ruby Hillenburg on April 23, 1955. She survives.
Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Mr. Vaught was a former member of Local 37 Steel Workers. He was retired from Youngstown Steel in East Chicago. He was the owner of H&R Tavern in Portage. He enjoyed spending time on the Tippecanoe River in Winamac. No visitation is scheduled. A rembrance of life service will be scheduled at a later date.
FRANCESVILLE - Gerald Keith Topp, 83, 502 West Jackson St., Mulberry, passed away at 2:22 p.m., Thursday, March 20, at Mulberry Health and Retirement Community in Mulberry. He was born Oct. 10, 1924, in Francesville to Lewis and Rubia Rhinehart Topp. He married Clara Gertrude "Gertie" Locke on Nov. 6, 1955 in Winamac. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 2005. She died March 11, 2006.
Survivors include: He was preceded in death by: Mr. Topp was a member of the United Church of Christ and the American Legion. He served as a sergeant in the US Army during World War II, serving in the Phillipines and Japan. He was a retired farmer. He was a former resident of Francesville and Lafayette. Robert M. Podell Sr. WINAMAC - Robert M. Podell Sr., 79, 2407 Baywater Road, Tavares, Fla. (also of 1119 N 300 W, Winamac), passed away at 9:50 a.m., Saturday, March 15, at his Florida residence. He was born March 8, 1929 in Denham, the son of Orlie W. and Elsie Thonert Podell. He married Anna Marie Porter on Nov. 24, 1951 in Denham. She survives.
Also surviving are: He was preceded in death by: Mr. Podell retired from farming in 1993. He served four terms on the Pulaski County Council from 1976 to 1992. He was a member of the Indiana Mint Growers Association. He was also a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Winamac, where he served as preseident and superintendent of the Sunday School and other church offices. He also taught Sunday School. He was an associate member of the Woodlands Lutheran Church in Montverde, Fla. Mary Jane Riley MEDARYVILLE - Mary Jane Riley, 59, 18422 S 1050 W, LaCrosse, passed away at 4 p.m., Thursday, March 13, at Methodist Hospital Southlake Campus in Merrillville. She was born Oct. 5, 1948, in Crawfordsville, to Fred and Bessie Dowell Riley. Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Ms. Riley was a former Medaryville resident. She was the deli manager at the IGA Grocery in Francesville. She had worked at the Family Express in Medaryville and at Good Oil in Medaryville. She had worked as a janitor at Valparaiso University for many years. A memorial service will be at 8 p.m., Thursday (March 20), at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Medaryville. She married Orville Timmons on Dec. 5,1939 in Winamac. He survives.

Raybould, 80, Knox, passed away at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, March 9, at St. Vincent Seton Speciality Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born Dec. 27, 1927, in Blue Island, Ill., to Milton and Eva Roulo Raybould. He married Ruth Wangerin on Oct. 29, 1949, in Chicago. She died on Jan. 22, 2006.
Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Mr. Raybould served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a retired Chicago firefighter. He was a former maintenance worker at Marquette High School in Michigan City, and at St. Francis de Sales High School in Chicago. He was a longtime resident of Chicago, moving to Bass Lake following his retirement from the Chicago Fire Department in 1981. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Winamac. Shirley Campbell WINAMAC - Shirley Campbell 62, 1234 S 50 E, Winamac, passed away Sunday afternoon March 9, at the Life Care Center, Rochester. She is survived by two brothers and a sister. She had been an employee of the Peak Community Service Workshop, Winamac, since 1986. She had also been a resident of Peak's Women's Group Home in Winamac since 1986. She was an honorary member of the Pulaski County Extension Homemakers. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Monday (March 17), at the First Baptist Church, Winamac. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.
Cora A. Cotner She was born Oct. 12, 1909, in Winamac, to Walter and Carrie Walters Young. She married Ralph H. Cotner on Oct. 18, 1930. He died on Nov. 3, 1986.
Survivors include: She was preceded in death by: Mrs. Cotner attended Tippecanoe Christian Church and was a member of the Jeff-Rich Home-Ec Club. She had been active in Democratic Party politics. Donna M. DeLorenzo She was born October 3, 1928, in Winamac, to William Elmer and Effie Ruth Geiger Degner. She married Charles E. DeLorenzo on Oct. 25, 1950, in Washington, DC. He survives.

She formerly worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C., for several years. She was a member of the VFW Post #1728 Ladies Auxillary. Schultz, 77, Star City, passed away at 11:17 p.m., Wednesday, March 5, in St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born Sept. 10, 1930 in Star City, the son of Henry Carl and Grace Pate Schultz. He married Delores Kain on April 1, 1951 in Star City. She survives.

Nancy M. Kwiatkowski WINAMAC - Nancy Marie Kwiatkowski, 69, 3432 W 500 N, Winamac, passed away at 4:55 a.m., Sunday, March 2, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. She was born June 15, 1938, in Oaklawn, Ill., to Clarence and Claire Kolbietz Neubieser. She married John Kwiatkowski on April 6, 1963. He survives.
Also surviving are: Mrs. Kwiatkowski was a graduate of Oaklawn High School, and received her X-ray technician training at Little Company of Mary in Oaklawn. In 1961 she moved to Little Company of Mary in San Pierre. In 1963 she joined Pulaski Memorial Hospital as one of the hospital's first X-ray technicians. She retired from PMH in June of 2004 after over 40 years of service. She was a 4-H leader for the Franklin Township 4-H Club for many years and a member of a local Bunco club.
