Jennie Phillips WINAMAC - Jennie Phillips, 89, of 624 E. 13th St., Winamac, died at 8:20 p.m., Thursday, March 25, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. Arrangements are pending at the Frain Mortuary, Winamac.
Sandra C. Humphrey MEDARYVILLE - Sandra C. Humphrey, 60, 15852 W 200 N, Medaryville, died at 9:15 a.m., Tuesday, March 23, at her residence. She was born Aug. 2, 1949, in Rensselaer, to Cecil and Irene McCarty Mitchell. She married George "Peanut" Humphrey on June 3, 1972, in Rensselaer. He survives.
Also surviving are: Preceded in death by: Mrs. Humphre had worked for many years as a beautician for Claudine Childers. She had also been a cook in various restaurants in the area. Alma L. Ewing FRANCESVILLE - Alma Lovene Ewing, 88, of 303 N. Bill St., Francesville, passed away at 3:31 a.m., Tuesday, March 23, at Rensselaer Care Center in Rensselaer. She was born June 26, 1921, in Medaryville, to Chris and Irinda Farrar Linback. She married Robert C. Ewing on Aug. 29, 1940 in Idaville. He passed away Sept. 15, 2008.
Survivors include She was preceded in death by: Mrs. Ewing was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Church in Francesville. She was a life member of the VFW Auxillary 1728 in Winamac. Barbara Joyce Gildon FRANCESVILLE - Barbara J. Gildon, 59, of Francesville, died at 2 a.m., Saturday, March 20, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was was born to Donna and Byron McBride on Dec. 13, 1950 in Musselshell County, Montana. She a married James Gildon on Oct. 5, 1986 in Gary, at the First Church of God. He survives.
Also surviving are: Preceded in death by: Mrs. Gildon accepted Christ in her adult years and became a member of the Medaryville Assembly of God Church. Barbara completed Bible studies at Indiana Christian Bible College. She had received a Ministerial Certificate and Ministerial Commission from the Church of God in Anderson. She was a student at Berean School of the Bible/ Global University for Ordination. Friends may call from 12 to 2 p.m., Friday, at Medaryville Assembly of God. FRANCEVILLE - Mary Jean Brennan, 86, of 101 Constitution Drive, Francesville, passed away at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, March 20, at Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville. She was born Sept. 6, 1923, in Lebanon, to Robert L. and Jesse Fern Kincaid Martin. She married Cecil Brennan, Sr. on Dec. 7, 1941 in Lebanon. He died Sept. 17, 1976.
Survivors include She was preceded in death by: Mrs. Brennan worked for the Indiana Employment Security Division in Indianapolis as an accountant. Billy G. Oliver Sr. MEDARYVILLE - Billy G. Oliver Sr., 71, of 1860 S 200 E, Knox, passed away at 12:50 a.m., Monday, March 15, in the Golden Living Center, Valparaiso. He was born May 15, 1938, in Rensselaer, to George W. and Lillie Joseph Oliver.
Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Mr. Oliver had been a resident of Knox for the past six years, and was formerly of Medaryville, and Chesterton. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and truck driver. He also raised livestock and was an avid hunter. He was a former member of the Indiana National Guard. Keith Amos Westphal FRANCESVILLE - Keith Amos Westphal, 82, of 215 E. Lyman St., Francesville, passed away at 4:15 p.m., Saturday, March 13, at his residence. He was born Dec. 4, 1927, in Michigan City, to John and Gladys Watson Westphal. Amos married Mary Getz on Dec. 4, 1948 in Louisville, KY. She survives

Ronald L. Smeltzer WINAMAC - Roland L. Smeltzer, 78, of 31 South Oak Drive West, Winamac, died at 5:50 a.m., Saturday, March 13, at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. He was born May 7, 1931, in Winamac, to Raymond and Mary Conner Smeltzer. He married Dolores J. Shrader on May 20, 1952 in Logansport. She survives
Also surviving are: Mr. Smeltzer was the owner/operator of Smeltzer Bulldozing in Winamac from 1956 to 1984. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He served aboard the USS Sierra AD-18 from 1952 to 1956. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Winamac and a life member of the VFW Post 1728 in Winamac. Eugene M. Henry WINAMAC - Eugene M. Henry, 91, of Port St. Lucie, FL, formerly of Winamac, died on Friday, March 12, in Florida. He was born to Hershel and Edith Henry on Aug. 23, 1918 in Winamac. He married Hazel Lucille Henry on Aug. 6, 1938, and they celebrated their 71st anniversary in 2009.
He is survived by his wife Hazel; his son Myron (Mary); grand children Karen Henry Kraft (Robert), Carrie Lynn Henry (Terry), Anita Kay Henry and Kevin Henry; and great grandchildren Michael Henry, Vanessa Kraft, Matthew Henry and Abby Lynn Veit. He was preceded in death by his parents and his five brothers Stanley, Byron, Wendell, Corwin and Lorwin, all of whom also served in the Armed Forces in World War II. He was also preceded in death by his son Larry and his great grandson Nicholas Henry. Mr. Henry was a Boy Scout leader for Troop Six in Peru, and he and his two sons Larry and Myron received their Eagle Scout awards at the same Court of Honor in 1955. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and then served with the Internal Revenue Service for 33 years. He was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, and he was a member of the Indian River Presbyterian Church for 31 years. He sang in the Indian River Presbyterian Church Choir for 29 years. Upon his retirement from the IRS in 1975, he worked with the A.A.R.P. tax aide program for 27 years and was an active member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. A visitation will be held at Haisley Funeral Home in Ft. Pierce, FL, on Monday, from 5 to 8 p.m. (www.haisleyfuneralhome.com). A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday (March 16), at the Indian River Presbyterian Church in Ft. Pierce. Lorraine Victoria Fosenau WINAMAC - Lorraine Victoria Rosenau, 74, of 2225 Brooks Bluff Road, North Judson, formerly of Winamac, passed away at 1 p.m., Friday, March 5, at Hickory Creek, Winamac. She was born Sept. 30, 1935, in Ora, to Earl and Clara Gilsinger Walters. She married Robert Paul Rosenau on Dec. 20, 1958, in Monterey. He survives.
Also surviving are: Preceded in death by: Mrs. Rosenau was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Winamac. She was a 1953 graduate of Monterey High School. She was a longtime resident of Winamac and spent many winters in Arizona. She was a former employee of Rice Corporation, Winamac, and Hart, Schaffner & Marx, Rochester, and retired from Torens, Rochester. WINAMAC - Robert L. Poor, 79, of 480 E. 13th St., Winamac, passed away at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 2, in the Pulaski Health Care Center, Winamac. He was born May 31, 1930, in Winamac, to Harry and Geraldine Trapp Poor. He married Maitlyn C. Holt on March 4, 1954, in Winamac. She survives.
Also surviving are: Preceded in death by: Mr. Poor was a member of the Winamac First United Methodist Church.He was veteran of the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War. WINAMAC - M. Ilene Meyer, 90, of 5062 S 200 E, Star City, passed away at 1:46 a.m., Friday, Feb. 26, at Hickory Creek, Winamac. She was born Nov. 17, 1919, in Kokomo, to Henry and Dora Hendry Kline. She married Sylvester Meyer on Oct. 29, 1938 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pulaski. He died on May 10, 1962.
Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Mrs. Meyer was a member of the St. Peter's Catholic Church in Winamac, and the Christian Mothers. MEDARYVILLE - Clinton Mullins, 79, of 4455 N 1400 W, Medaryville, passed away at 1:53 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 24, in Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac. He was born Oct. 27, 1930, in Salyersville, KY, to William and Gracie Wireman Mullins.

FRANCESVILLE - Julia Ruth Myers Liebert, 95, Winston Salem, NC, formerly of Francesville, passed away Feb. 10, in Winston Salem. She was was born Nov. 15, 1914, in Francesville, to Roy and Edith Myers. She married Joseph Liebert in Chicago, on June 30, 1949. She is survived by her two children, Stephen Myers Liebert, and Julie Liebert Dornberger, both of Winston Salem. In addition to her immediate family, including her grandson, John Zachary Dornberger and wife Melissa, she is survived by eight siblings, Mabel Brown, Monon, Alyce Onken, Francesville, Virgil (Rachel) Myers, Francesville, Gertrude Godbout, Manchester, NH, Jeanne Hawn, Lakewood, CO, Maudelene Allyn, San Antonio, TX, Norma (John) Hammel, Angola, and Donald Myers, Francesville, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her infant brother, Stanley, and her husband, Joseph Liebert. Mrs. Liebert was an accomplished painter. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at 10 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life memorial service Saturday (Feb. 27) at 11 a.m., at First Christian Church, 192 E. Jesus Martinez Sr. MEDARYVILLE - Jesus Martinez Sr., 76, of 1881 N. Owens Lane, Medaryville, passed away at 6:05 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 18, at his residence. He was born Sept. 17, 1933, in Brackettville, TX, to Jesus and Maria Meza Martinez . He married Caroline Cruz on May 29, 1956, in Chicago. She died on Oct. 26, 2002.
Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Mr. Martinez was a member of St. Henry's Catholic Church and the American Legion, both of Medaryville, and the VFW in Chicago Heights, IL. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Germany where he received the Purple Heart Award. While in the military he was an engineer. He retired from Ford Motor Company, Chicago Heights, IL, after 35 years of service. Mary Ann Weaver WINAMAC - Mary Ann Weaver, 78, of 514 S. Market St., Winamac, passed away at 10:29 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 18, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Hobart. She was born Jan. 1, 1932, in Lakeside, to Ralph and Mertie Kestle Thompson. She married Walter J. Weaver on July 7, 1952, in Winamac. He passed away on Feb. 8, 2008.
Survivors include: Mrs. Weaver had served as deputy auditor in the Pulaski County Auditors office for 17 years. She worked as an absentee registrar for the Pulaski County Election Board for many years. She was a member of the Pulaski County Republican Womens Club and was active in the Red Hat Society. Phyllis Maxine Kellogg FRANCESVILLE - Phyllis "Maxine" Kellogg, 88, of 1309 E. Grace Street, Rensselaer, passed away at 6:35 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 18, at Rensselaer Care Center, Rensselaer. She was born Fe. 25, 1921, in Lafayette, to Lynn and Alta Erickson Rainier. She married Jack L. Kellogg on Dec. 28, 1940 in Brookston. He died on Oct. 9, 2006.
Survivors include: She was preceded in death by: Mrs. Kellogg grew up in Brookston, but lived most of her life in Monon. She was a 1939 graduate of Brookston High School and attended Hanover College. She was a member of the Monon United Methodist Church, Monon. She was also a member of the Phi-Mu Sorority, the Current Literature Club in Monon and the Order of Eastern Star in Wolcott. Tom Bly Sutton WINAMAC - Tom Bly Sutton, 56, 3236 E. 75 S., Albion (formerly of Winamac), died at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 16, at his residence. He was born June 16, 1953, in Tipton, to Jack A. and Ruth M. Case Sutton.
Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Mr. Sutton was the property manager at Chain O' Lakes State Park, Albion, since April 2009. He had been property manager at Tippecanoe River State Park, Winamac, since 1985, where he previously served as assistant property manager. He he had also been property manager at Shakamak State Park, Jasonville, IN, in 1993-94. He had been named assistant property manager of the year and property manager of the year by the Indiana Department Of Natural Resources. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Eagle's Lodge, Winamac. He was a native of Kokomo and graduated from Taylor High School and Indiana University. Judy Ann Roby ARGOS - Judy Ann (Livingston) Roby, 60, of 11081 W. 700 North, Culver, passed away at 5:58 p.m. Monday in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth, following a sudden illness. She was born Jan. 10, 1950 in Anderson to Carl and Betty (Wilson) Livingston. She married Stephan G. Roby on Aug. 17, 1968 in Anderson. He survives. Also surviving are daughter, Rene Burton, Kewanna; her mother, Betty King, Anderson; two sisters, Diana Scott, Fortville, and Carol Gerard, Anderson; a brother, Dan Livingston, Mount Summit, and granddaughter Felicia, Kewanna. She was preceded in death by her father, and a daughter, Amanda Roby. Mrs. Roby graduated from Highland High School in Anderson in 1968.
She had lived in Fulton County and the Culver community since 1987,
coming from Alexandria, Ind. She worked for the Pulaski County Journal
for several years, and she and her husband were actively involved at
the Culver Farmers Market; and the following associations: Midwest
Drovers, Sweet Sorghum Growers, and Michiana Bee Keepers. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 18), at Leiters Ford Cemetery, with the Pastor Bill Guerin of Living Water in Winamac officiating. Jack L. Felker WINAMAC - Jack L. Felker, 72, of 531 S. Market St., Winamac, passed away at 11:58 a.m., Monday, Feb. 15, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born May 31, 1937 in Winamac to Ray and Edith Laura Fritz Felker.
He married Mary L. Moise on Oct. 29, 1966 in Winamac. She survives.
Also surviving are: Mr. Felker was a former dispatcher for the Pulaski Co. Sheriff's Office. He was also a former employee of Bryan Manufacturing, Monticello, and Kewanna Metal Specialities, Kewanna. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Winamac. He was a ham radio operator, and a member of the Amateur Radio Relay League. Joseph F. Fox WINAMAC - Joseph F. Fox, 92, of 8641 South 325 West, Star City, passed away at 3:45 p.m., Monday, Feb. 8, at Miller's Merry Manor in Culver. He was born Aug. 17, 1917, in Star City, to Edward and Stella Kuhn Fox. He married Minonna "Noan" Crissinger on July 14, 1945, in Winamac. She survives.
Also surviving are: He was preceded in death by: Mr. Fox had been a farmer his whole life. He was a member of the Pulaski County Farm Bureau and Indiana Farmer's Union. He served on the board of directors of the White County REMC for many years. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pulaski, and belonged to the Holy Name Society. He had served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of the VFW Post #1728 in Winamac, and the F.O.E. in Logansport. Neal Hiatt WINAMAC - Neal Hiatt, 93, of 624 E. 13th St., Winamac, passed away at 4:15 p.m., Friday, Feb. 5, at Pulaski Health Care Center, Winamac. He was born June 4, 1916, in Star City, to Harvey and Eva L. Kahler Hiatt. He married Bonnie G. Bonnell on Feb. 4, 1940 at the United Methodist Church in Star City. She died Aug. 19, 2003.
Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Mr. Hiatt was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Winamac. He also had been a Sunday School teacher at the Star City United Methodist Church. He was very active in the Star City community and Pulaski County during his lifetime. He was a member of the Star City Lion's Club, Pulaski County Farm Bureau, a former director of the Pulaski-White Rural Telephone Co., former Van Buren Township Trustee, and past president of the Pulaski Co. Historical Society. He had been active in 4-H leadership through the years. He lived in Star City most of his life, moving to Winamac 18 years ago after retiring from farming. Gregory A. Hooker
He was born on April 26, 1965 in Gary, the son of Larry L. and Nancy Long Hooker. Survivors include his daughter Hannah Hooker of Medaryville; his parents of Francesville; sisters Kelly K. [John] Schmicker of Winamac, Brandy [Kris] Aschbrenner of Charlotte, NC and Nikki Hooker of West Lafayette; brother Cody [Angie] Hooker of Pendleton; nephews Justin, Kegan and Qort Schmicker; niece Autumn Schmicker; and great niece Brilee Schmicker. A private memorial service was held at Gundrum Funeral Home in Logansport officiated by Pastor Bill McNabney. William Tipp Webb WINAMAC - William Tipp Webb, 81, of 333 E.Main St., Winamac, passed away at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 21, at Pulaski Health Care Center, Winamac, after losing a valiant battle with a debilitating lung disease. He was born May 17, 1928 in South Bend, and in 1930 moved to Winamac with his parents the late Eula E. Campbell and William H. Webb. He married to Mary Elizabeth Worley, daughter of the late Frank and Katie Worley, on Sept. 23, 1950 in Pulaski. She passed away on Dec. 1, 1993. He then married Louanna Stephens Deutschman on Dec. 10, 1994, in Winamac. She survives.
Also surviving are: Preceded in death by: At an early age, Mr. Webb began work at the Winamac Republican, then owned by the late George Shull. In the mid-1940s, he was employed by the Pulaski County Democrat (later Journal) as a printer and lineotype operator. Eventually, he went into business for himself establishing Webb Printing in the back of the Journal office. He then located across the street into the office space of the late Dr. H.J. Halleck. The business was later moved to its present location, built in 1996. In October 2009, Mr. Webb celebrated his 65th year as a printer. He was a T5 in U.S. Army security from 1946 to 1948, and saw duty in Japan, Okinawa, Phillipines and Korea. He had attended the Winamac Presbyterian Church and St. Peter's Catholic Church in Winamac. Mr. Webb was an active community volunteer and supporter. He was a Little League coach from 1960 to 1974. He served as a Precinct Committeeman, and as one of the last presidents of the now disbanded Rotary Club. He also held membership in the American Legion, VFW, and was a Past-Master and 50- year member of the Winamac Masonic Lodge No. 262 F&AM. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m., Sunday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. A Masonic service will be at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Mildred A. Boehning FRANCESVILLE - Mildred A. Boehning, 97, of 101 Constitution Drive, Francesville, passed away at 12:05 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14, in Jasper County Hospital, Rensselaer. She was born July 15, 1912, in Francesville, to Charles P. and Cora Klopfenstein Swing. She married Alvin F. Boehning on May 23, 1931, in Winamac. He passed away Oct. 5, 1996.

Connie J. Sewell FRANCESVILLE - Connie J. Sewell, 76, of 235 N. State St., Francesville, passed away at 2:45 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 12, in Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare, Monticello. She was born June 19, 1933, in Walnut Ridge, AR, to Glenn and Mary Grant Eakright. She married James M. Sewell on Feb. 14, 1954, in City of Gary Methodist Church, Gary. He survives.

John N. Keys FRANCESVILLE - John N. Keys, 87 , of 8783 N 200 W, Monon, passed away at 12:55 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 10, at his residence. He was born Aug. 15, 1922, in Thompkinsville, KY, to Hobart and Betty Beatrice Farley Keys. He married Sara J. Case on May 11, 1947, in the Monon Wesleyan Church, Monon. She passed away June 2, 1995.
Survivors include: Preceded in death by: Mr. Keys was a graduate of Wolcott High School and was the valedictorian of his graduating class.He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He attended the Wesleyan Church in Monon where he was a former Sunday School teacher. Mr. Keys retired as a track maintenance foreman for the Monon Railroad. He had been with the railroad for 47 years. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Union. He was a former general chairman of the region. He was a former legislative representative for all of the northern Indiana railroads. He was former owner of the Monon Deep Rock/Kerr-McGee gas station. He lived in Monon most of his life. Leonard H. Hulmes WINAMAC - Leonard H. Hulmes, 72, of 2366 N 300 E, Winamac, passed away at 1:42 p.m., Monday, Jan. 4, at St. Vincent Heart Center of Indiana, Indianapolis. He was born May 8, 1937, in Champaign, IL, to Herman and Eula Magill Hulmes. He married Phyllis Ann Nease on Nov. 19, 1960, in Rankin, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are: Preceded in death by: Mr. Hulmes was a member of the Monterey United Methodist Church. He was a resident of Winamac for 36 years, coming from Rankin, IL. He was a retired farmer. Adam R. Pfledderer FRANCESVILLE - Adam R. Pfledderer, 91, of 203 Yellow St. in Francesville, died at 4:10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 2, at Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare in Monticello. He was born May 16, 1918 in Francesville to George and Marie Remm Pfledderer. He married Mary Lewark on Dec. 16, 1961 in Francesville. She survives.
Also surviving are: Preceded in death by: Mr. Pfledderer was self-employed as a farm worker. He did custom combining and corn shelling. He worked at a local farm until his was 84 years old. He also owned an auto repair shop in Francesville. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps 11th Bombardment Group Co. H in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion in Francesville for more than 60 years. He was also a member of the VFW in Rensselaer for 40 years.
